MLBPA, MLB Appoint New Independent Program Administrator

New York, NY, Friday, December 1, 2017 ...  The Major League Baseball Players Association and Major League Baseball announced today that they have appointed Thomas M. Martin, Ph.D., as the new Independent Program Administrator of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

As Independent Program Administrator, Dr. Martin will be responsible for administering the Program's testing requirements, monitoring the Program's collection procedures and testing protocols, auditing the test results of the Program and administering the Therapeutic Use Exemption process.  In addition, he will also prepare and release an annual public report on the Program's findings.

Dr. Martin is a retired United States Army Colonel who served more than 20 years in a variety of military drug, toxicology and biomedical areas.  Most recently, he was the Director of the Department of Defense's (DoD) Drug Testing and Program Policy Office at the Pentagon, where he oversaw the military and DoD civilian drug testing programs.  Dr. Martin is a graduate of Clemson University, where he earned a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry and a Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry. 

Dr. Martin succeeds Jeffrey M. Anderson, M.D., who served in this role since 2012 until his unexpected passing in September 2017.
