Statement from Executive Director Tony Clark on the passing of Bob Friend

Major League Baseball Players Association Executive Director Tony Clark today issued the following statement regarding the passing of Bob Friend:

"In addition to being a three-time all-star, twice leading the National League in innings pitched, and never spending a day on the disabled list over a 16-year career, Bob Friend was a longtime advocate for his fellow players. As a player representative for 10 years and a member of Players Association's executive committee for five years, Bob was a leading voice for pension and benefit improvements, and along with Robin roberts, Jim Bunning and Harvey Kuenn, Bob served on the four-person search committee that recruited Marvin Miller to become the MLBPA's first full-time executive director in 1966." -- Tony Clark, Executive Director
