Matt Nussbaum, Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) Assistant General Counsel, has been named to the list of Sports Business Journal’s  2017 “40 Under 40” sports industry executives.  In 2011, Matt took his talents “off ice” and south of the border, when he joined the MLBPA from the National Hockey League Players Association.  A native of South Bend, IN, Nussbaum received his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a catcher on the school’s baseball team.   Matt, 37, is heavily involved in the MLBPA’s labor relations efforts, protecting and advancing the collectively bargained rights of active Major Leaguers.  He plays an instrumental role in collective bargaining negotiations, grievances and salary arbitration.  Matt is also the lead on many of the on-field matters facing the game, from pace of play and instant replay to recent changes to the slide rule and home plate collisions.  As Matt told the Sports Business Journal, “As a washed-up former college baseball player, quarterbacking the PA’s efforts in this arena has been the perfect marriage of baseball and legal work.”
