The Major League Baseball Players Association is the certified bargaining representative of all Major League Players, enabling them collectively to defend and advance their workplace conditions, benefits, rights, and common interests, from the time they sign their first Major League contract through retirement. It has a long and proud history of standing up for the rights of its members – past, present and future.

The Association represents Players who have signed a major league contract with one of the thirty Major League Baseball Clubs for all purposes under the terms of the Basic Agreement (the collective bargaining agreement between the MLBPA and the Thirty Clubs), including the filing and processing of grievances, and works with the agents who negotiate the players' salaries and other added terms of employment.

The Association also utilizes the collective marketing power of Major League Baseball players to assist licensees and sponsors who want to associate their brands and products with Major Leaguers. This can include trading cards and collectibles, electronic games and wireless products, apparel and novelties.  And, the Association assists with the operation and administration of the Players Trust, a charitable foundation that is the first of its kind in professional sports. Through the Players Trust, Major Leaguers contribute their time, money and celebrity to call attention to important issues affecting the needy and to help encourage others to get involved in their own communities.

Below is a brief summary of internship opportunities at the Association:


1. General Internship (Undergraduates)

Every year, MLBPA has work opportunities for several General Interns during both the school year and the summer.  Responsibilities vary depending on need, but assignments will include research opportunities, general office support, and administrative assistance. As is the case with all interns, regardless of assignment, the General Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the different areas of expertise at the Association and the various services provided to Players.

Eligible candidates should be in good standing and on track to obtain an undergraduate degree in an area relevant to the work and purpose of the Association. Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communications skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, and experience working with the Microsoft suite of programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher). Some office experience and fluency in Spanish are helpful but not required. A working knowledge or interest in Major League Baseball is essential.  References, transcript and a writing sample are required.

2. MLBPA Communications Intern (Six-month commitment)

The Major League Baseball Players Association's communications intern will gain valuable communications, public relations and graphic design experience working within a preeminent sports labor and marketing organization. The communications intern will be involved with the MLBPA's day-to-day media, public relations and marketing communications activities, supporting the communications objectives of the Association's labor, licensing, and not-for-profit activities. These activities will include, but not be limited to, news monitoring, social media account coordination, graphic design, video editing and marketing communications.

Eligible candidates should be on track to obtain a degree in public relations, graphic/visual arts, communications and/or sports management, and should possess excellent written and verbal communications skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, experience working with the Microsoft suite of programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere), working knowledge of various social networking sites and applications including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc. and experience using the Internet as a communications and research tool. Experience with content management systems (e.g., Titan, Word Press), and knowledge of Major League Baseball is helpful. Recent graduates may apply. References and transcript are required.

3. Peggy Browning MLBPA Fellow:

The Association employs at least one law Fellow selected from candidates recommended by the Peggy Browning Fund, a national organization dedicated to educating and inspiring the next generation of law students to become advocates for workplace justice.

The Peggy Browning MLBPA Fellow functions much like a law clerk at any other union or union-side firm. The Fellow will be given a variety of research and writing assignments, depending on then-current demands. Where practical, the Fellow may attend arbitration hearings, grievance meetings, and other meetings with league officials, agents and players.

The Association prefers 2L applicants who will have completed a labor law course by the end of their second year; an interest in, and an affinity for, practicing union-side labor law is an essential requirement.

The Association's policy is to hire law clerks from New York-area law schools because we expect that the Fellow will continue to work on a part-time basis through the following school year. The Fellow will be paid $22 per hour and is eligible for overtime.

4. Business Affairs Intern:   

The Business Affairs Intern, a paid position, is involved in all aspects of the Association's Business Affairs Department, with a focus on start-to-finish projects and research assignments as well as administrative support. Responsibilities will cover multiple business categories, retail development, social media and more. An applicant must be a college graduate with excellent communication and organization skills, strong knowledge of baseball players and an interest in a career in baseball. This is a full-time commitment and will last six months(unless extended). Overtime hours may be required from time to time.

5. Business Affairs - Sponsorship & Digital Presence Intern:

This is a paid position, is involved in all aspects of the Association's Business Affairs Department, with a focus on social media and research assignments as well as administrative support. Responsibilities include drafting memos, researching social media trends, communicating with player representatives and licensees and assisting the Business Affairs department with all aspects of operations.  An eligible candidate must be a college graduate with excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong qualitative and quantitative skills, and great organization skills.  Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required. Background in Communications, Social Media, Marketing, or Sports is ideal. This is a full-time commitment and will last six months (unless extended). Overtime hours may be required from time to time.

6. Summer Law Clerk with Business Affairs:

The Business Affairs Law Clerk works directly with attorneys in the Business Affairs and Licensing department. Primary responsibilities include researching legal issues, including those relating to intellectual property, sports and contract law, and assisting with the enforcement of intellectual property rights. The Law Clerk also assists with licensing agreements, trademark proceedings and other projects as needed.

The Association prefers applicants who are 1Ls or 2Ls from NYC area law schools and have excellent academic credentials. Course work and practical experience in intellectual property law and the sports, media or entertainment industries are a plus.  Applicants should have a strong proficiency in legal research, preferably using LexisNexis, excellent legal analysis and writing skills, the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively orally and in writing, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated a strong attention to detail.
