Players choice
Awards
Since 1992, the Players Choice Awards have celebrated excellence across Major League Baseball, recognizing performance, leadership, perseverance, and impact on and off the field. The awards are especially meaningful to players, because they’re determined through a vote of their peers.
Players understand the effort and commitment required to navigate the demands of a 162-game season. They see the time invested in the batting cage, on the bullpen mound and in the weight room first-hand, and they know who makes a difference in ways that transcend statistics. That unique perspective gives the Players Choice Awards their special meaning.

Voted by the Players
The ballots belong to the Players. No writers. No broadcasters. No outside panel.
Categories and Awards
From the season’s elite performances to inspirational comebacks, the awards recognize excellence across the game.
Charitable Component
Recognition extends beyond the field, with Players Choice honors citing charitable work facilitated by the Players Trust.
Baseball’s Legacy
Some awards celebrate the season. Others honor the players who leave it better for future generations by advocating for player rights through union leadership roles.
How It Works
Each year, shortly before the end of the regular season, active Major League Baseball players from all 30 clubs cast their ballots to recognize the peers they believe have distinguished themselves across the game. The voting process is independently administered, making the Players Choice Awards a reflection of the collective judgment of the players themselves.

Excellence Across the Game

beyond the ballpark.
The Honors
Tipping the Hat
Excellence is manifested in multiple ways. The Players Choice Awards recognize the performances that define a year, the comebacks that defy expectations, and the leadership and impact that extend well beyond the field.
Special Awards
Curt Flood
A well-paid slave is nonetheless a slave.
- Curt Flood, 1969
Curt Flood put his career on the line to challenge baseball’s reserve system and assert a simple principle: Players should have a say in where they work. His fight helped open the door to free agency and changed professional sports forever. The award bearing his name honors former players who embody that same commitment to the union and to the rights of players who follow.
Leadership, Service & Impact
The Players Choice Awards recognize leadership, service, and philanthropy alongside on-field excellence. These honors celebrate players whose leadership, advocacy, and charitable efforts have made a lasting impact on the game, their fellow players, and communities around the world.
Thirty-Four Seasons.
Still Batting Cleanup.
The first Players Choice Awards were handed out in 1992. The list of distinguished honorees through the years represents the very best of the game, on and off the field. The names and faces change over time, but Players Choice recipients have one thing in common: They’ve earned the lasting respect of their peers.
