NEW YORK, October 28– Pete Crow-Armstrong has been named overall Player of the Year and NL Outstanding Player, while Yordan Álvarez took home the AL Outstanding Player and Comeback Player of the Year awards in the 2026 Players Choice Awards voting. David Cone is the winner of the 2026 Curt Flood Award, which goes to “a former player, living or deceased, who in the image of Flood demonstrated a selfless, longtime devotion to the Players Association and advancement of players’ rights”, while Baltimore Orioles pitcher Chris Bassitt is this year’s recipient of the Marvin Miller Award.
Since 1992, the Players Choice Awards have honored outstanding on-and-off-field performances of MLB athletes, with winners chosen exclusively by fellow players. Voting among all clubhouses took place in September with the help of the accounting firm KPMG.
Along with Álvarez, American League players voted Cam Schlittler as Outstanding Pitcher and Kevin McGonigle as Outstanding Rookie. National League players selected Jacob Misiorowski as Outstanding Pitcher, Zack Wheeler as Comeback Player and Sal Stewart as Outstanding Rookie.
Crow-Armstrong led the majors this year in home runs, runs scored, and WAR on his way to a 40-homer, 40-steal season. He set career highs in OPS, slugging percentage, triples, RBIs, walks, and total bases, and appeared in his second consecutive All-Star Game while leading the Cubs to a postseason berth.
Crow-Armstrong was joined as a Player of the Year finalist by Álvarez and Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers’ record-setting designated hitter and pitcher.
2026 Marvin Miller Man of the Year
This award is dedicated to Marvin Miller, who served as the MLBPA’s first full-time executive director from 1966 through 1982, and guided the organization’s emergence as one of the country’s strongest and most cohesive labor unions. It recognizes the player “whose leadership most inspires others to higher levels of achievement.”
The 2026 recipient, Chris Bassitt, has provided leadership and a steady, reliable voice in his role as an MLBPA player representative and member of the PA’s Executive Subcommittee. Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner and Twins starter Pablo López were the other finalists.
Curtis Granderson, who retired after the 2019 season, won the award four times. Other recent honorees include Brent Suter (2025), Rhys Hoskins (2024), Marcus Semien (2023 and 2021), and Francisco Lindor (2022). Watch more here.
2026 Philanthropist of the Year Award
The Players Trust Philanthropist of the Year award recognizes the community work of individual players, celebrating their altruistic spirit and positive social impact beyond the diamond. The 2026 recipient, Rangers first baseman Jake Burger, has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families through the Burger Family Foundation, which he founded in 2025 alongside his wife, Ashlyn. The foundation provides direct financial assistance and therapy to help lighten the load and ensure that all children have the resources they need to thrive.
Along with Burger, this year’s Philanthropist of the Year finalists were Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich and Cubs starter Matthew Boyd. The Players Trust also recognized Pirates starter Paul Skenes, Reds starter Hunter Greene, and Yankees starter Carlos Rodón as Most Valuable Philanthropists in 2026. All finalists received $10,000 grants from the Players Trust, and as winner, Burger will receive an additional $25,000. Watch more here.
2026 Curt Flood Award
The Curt Flood Award commemorates Flood’s historic judicial fight against baseball’s reserve system, which paved the way for the advent of free agency in 1975. This year’s winner is David Cone, a former Cy Young winner and five-time All-Star who is currently a successful broadcaster.
Cone was an active presence in MLBPA leadership over 17 seasons with the Royals, Mets, Yankees, and two other clubs. He played a pivotal role in CBA negotiations as American League player representative in 1994-95, when players went on strike for a record-setting 232 days to fend off a salary cap. Watch more here.
