Bruce Meyer Addresses Baseball Media at All-Star Game

Bruce Meyer, the MLBPA's interim executive director, spoke to the Baseball Writers Association of America today during the group's annual All-Star game brunch in Philadelphia.

Meyer updated the writers on collective bargaining negotiations, which began in May, and reiterated the players' strong opposition to a salary cap. "I will tell you with all honesty, I have never seen this degree of unity at this point among agents and players,'' he said. The current CBA expires in December, at which point owners are expected to impose a lockout.

Meyer also shared his thoughts on competitive balance in baseball, the 2028 Olympics and the rise of gambling on the game, while criticizing MLB's current ad campaign in support of a salary cap. He spoke for about 20 minutes before a wide-ranging question-and-answer session with reporters.
