"The smaller market, lower revenue teams, in general, are the most profitable teams in baseball."

MLBPA Interim Executive Director Bruce Meyer appeared on @foulterritoryshow and @baseballissdead podcast to talk about the current CBA negotiations, and players’ commitment to leaving the game better than they found it for the next generation of players and fans. Meyer also talked about some of the mechanisms in place to level the playing field in baseball — and how owners take advantage of them by pocketing the money instead.

“The other thing about payroll disparity is it can be a self-fulfilling thing. If the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins decide we’re not going to spend, we’re not going to run a healthy payroll, we’re going to pocket the revenue sharing money we get - that increases payroll disparity.”
