While playing for Boston College, Pitcher John West got to know the family of Pete Frates, the former BC baseball captain who brought national awareness to a ruthless disease.

"Their son Pete was the catalyst for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge back in 2014. The Frates family are some of my heroes."

John was inspired to help more ALS patients receive home care and support from their loved ones. To put his plan into action, he teamed with The Players Trust - through a grant from the Players' Purpose initiative, he helped raise funds to support the Peter Frates ALS Foundation.

"I've been very blessed to get to know them and give back."

Players' Purpose is a Players Trust program that empowers Minor League Players to bring their charitable ideas to life. As the new season begins, we can't wait to continue helping John and other Players make a difference!
