Statement from Executive Director Tony Clark on World Baseball Classic two-game series being played in DR as part of the 2026 Spring Training schedule

“The tragic events of April 8, 2025, in Santo Domingo had a profound effect on the Dominican Republic and our community of Players,’’ said Tony Clark, executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association.

“This historic series, marking the first time that the DR National Team will host a Major League team on its native soil, is made possible by the passion and commitment of our active Players and all Players who wanted to bring this game home. The MLBPA honors the lives lost and stands with the victims' families and the communities forever changed. We hope this series brings a sense of unity and pride to the Dominican Republic and contributes to its healing. We are committed to continuing to support opportunities for our Players to return home and uplift the places that helped shape them.’’
