NEW YORK, July 21– The Players Trust, the charitable arm of the Major League Baseball Players Association, announced today that Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene is the recipient of the fourth Most Valuable Philanthropist award for the 2026 season. The Players Trust will award a $10,000 grant split evenly between the Hunter Greene ‘17 Award at Notre Dame High School and the Chozen Grace Partnership.

In accepting the award, Greene stressed his commitment to the next generation of students and athletes through his endowment at Notre Dame High School as well as his work with MLB Develops and the Dream Series.

“I am truly humbled to be recognized as the Most Valuable Philanthropist for July by the Players Trust,’’ Greene said. “Even though my main focus is competing to the best of my ability on the field, I have always recognized the platform and impact that have been given to me to change the lives of others.

“I was fortunate enough to have an amazing experience all four years of high school because of the support I had from teachers, staff and my coaches. I want the children that come through Notre Dame to have the same experience and opportunity as I did. I want them to feel seen, supported, and empowered. Knowing this endowment will help open doors for the next generation makes it even more meaningful.’’

The Hunter Greene ‘17 Award at Hunter’s alma matter, Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif., was established to help close the financial gap for Black American students with limited financial resources. Its aim is to allow these students to have an equal opportunity to be successful while at the school and beyond.

Chozen Grace has been working for 40 years in Ventura County, Calif., to help prevent family violence and abuse in the community. The partnership provides training and assistance for children, families, elders and the professionals who help them.

“Hunter’s commitment to giving back reflects the enduring impact players can have beyond the game. By supporting educational opportunities at his alma mater and resources for families in his community, he is helping build a stronger foundation for future generations,” said Players Trust Executive Director Amy Hever. “We are thrilled to honor him as our Most Valuable Philanthropist for July.”

Greene broke into the big leagues in 2022 and has spent his entire career in Cincinnati. An All-Star in 2024, Greene has been active in philanthropy work throughout his time with the Reds. Beyond his work with Notre Dame High School and Chozen Grace, he has worked closely with the Dream Series, inviting participants into his home and mentoring those interested in playing at the next level. 

The Players Trust’s Most Valuable Philanthropist award will be given six times this season to players who demonstrate an altruistic spirit and positive social impact beyond the diamond. Each winner receives a $10,000 grant from the Players Trust to his chosen charity.
