Matt Barnes, a Connecticut native, UConn baseball product and 2014 first-round draft pick, appeared in 467 games, made the 2018 All-Star team and averaged more than 11 strikeouts per nine innings as a reliever with the Red Sox, Marlins and Nationals. Barnes was Boston’s Player Representative for four seasons and a signee to the 2022 collective bargaining agreement. “I got to see how strong the union really is and how invested the players are in the future of this game,” he said.

Matt Barnes spent the majority of his MLBPA career with the Boston Red Sox, where he emerged as a key bullpen arm and earned an All-Star selection. He later pitched for the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals, bringing veteran experience to each club as his career progressed.
