Nick Pivetta, a native of Victoria, Canada, averaged nearly 10 strikeouts per nine innings over his first nine major league seasons. He currently ranks third in career strikeouts among Canadian-born pitchers behind Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins and Ryan Dempster. Pivetta took an interest in the union as a young Player with the Phillies and has maintained his involvement as a Player advocate in subsequent stops with the Red Sox and Padres.
