Sonny Gray grew up in Nashville, Tenn., and stayed close to home to pitch for Vanderbilt University before being drafted by the Athletics in 2011. Gray has gone on to have an exemplary career in the majors, pitching for five teams and making three All-Star teams over 13 seasons. His fellow Players voted him as runner-up for the 2019 Players Choice Awards’ American League Comeback Player. Gray has been a strong advocate for Players rights throughout his career and was actively engaged in the 2022 CBA negotiations.
